Las Vegas Raiders Fire Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy Amid Ongoing Struggles
The Las Vegas Raiders have made significant changes to their coaching staff following their latest loss, which dropped the team to a 2-7 record for the season. On Sunday, the Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, just hours after a 41-24 defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The decision was made by head coach Antonio Pierce, who had indicated earlier in the week that changes were necessary if the team’s offense did not improve. Pierce stated that he “felt he needed to make some kind of changes,” and it appears that Getsy was the first to bear the brunt of these adjustments.
The Raiders’ offense has been struggling significantly this season, ranking 26th in the NFL in points per game with an average of just 18.7 points. The team has yet to score more than 26 points in a single game and is also among the bottom 10 in total yards and total touchdowns.
In addition to Getsy, the Raiders also fired quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg. These moves are part of a broader shake-up, with more changes expected in the coming days.
Pass game coordinator Scott Turner is a logical candidate to take over as the new playcaller. Turner previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders from 2020 to 2022.
The Raiders’ coaching staff has faced numerous challenges this season, including high penalty numbers, few turnovers, and a high number of missed tackles. These issues have contributed to the team’s poor performance and have put additional pressure on Coach Pierce, who has only one year of NFL coaching experience as a position coach before becoming the head coach.
