St. Louis CITY SC Aims for First Win Against Seattle Sounders

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — St. Louis CITY SC is set to host the Seattle Sounders at Energizer Park on Saturday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. CT. After a commanding 3-0 victory over LA Galaxy last weekend, CITY SC looks to extend its winning streak, aiming for a first-ever win against Seattle, who has defeated them in all four prior matchups.
Fans can catch the action live on MLS Season Pass via the Apple TV app. The English broadcast features Tony Husband as play-by-play announcer and Ross Smith as an analyst, while the Spanish broadcast includes Raul Guzman and Ashley Gonzalez. Radio coverage will be provided by KYKY Y98.1 FM in English and KXOK 102.9 FM in Spanish.
The matchday festivities kick-off at 4:30 p.m. with the CITY Block Party on Lou Fusz Plaza, featuring DJ Sinamin. This event is free and open to all, allowing fans to enjoy food and entertainment before the match. Gates open at 6 p.m., with mobile ordering available through the CITY App, and a limited number of schedule magnets will be distributed to the first 10,000 attendees.
Kicking off at 7:30 p.m., fans are encouraged to create an electrifying home-field atmosphere as St. Louis SC looks to maintain its clean sheet streak. Last week, goals from Cedric Teuchert, Simon Becher, and Marcel Hartel each contributed to the victory over LA Galaxy, marking the first win of the 2025 MLS season for head coach Olof Mellberg.
St. Louis CITY SC’s Roman Bürki played a key role in the win, recording eight saves for his 18th career clean sheet. This performance secured him the MLS Player of The Matchday title. Remarkably, St. Louis has yet to concede a goal in league play this season, becoming the only MLS team to maintain such a record. This achievement marks the first time in club history that CITY SC has recorded three consecutive clean sheets in the opening matches of a season.
Seattle Sounders enter the match with a 1-1-1 record, coming off a dramatic 5-2 victory against LAFC last weekend. Jordan Morris leads the Sounders with three goals, while Albert Rusnák contributes a team-high three assists. However, the Sounders faced a setback in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, where they were eliminated by Cruz Azul, losing 4-1 in their second leg after a goalless first leg.
Assistant Coach Freddy Juarez emphasized the need for Seattle to regroup after their Champions Cup exit. “We met up against a team that was really good… we probably didn’t have our best night that night, and we just [need to] move on,” he stated. The Sounders have a dominant history against St. Louis, aiming to maintain their perfect record against this opponent.
Notably, St. Louis has only scored one goal against Seattle, which came from Tomas Totland in their previous match last season. Seattle’s advantage in this matchup is underscored by their strong performances in previous encounters, where they outscored CITY SC 9-1.
With a robust backline led by Bürki, who exhibited exceptional skill last week, Seattle recognizes that they need to be prepared for a well-organized St. Louis defense. “It’s going to be a tough game,” Juarez concluded, highlighting the challenges that lie ahead.
The matchup will be pivotal not only for St. Louis as it searches for its first win against Seattle but also for the Sounders as they aim to boost their standings in the Western Conference. After this match, Seattle will host the Houston Dynamo FC on March 22 at Lumen Field.
