Lsu Tigers Baseball Super Regional Vs West Virginia

BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU Tigers baseball team is set to begin its 17th NCAA Super Regional this Saturday, June 7, against the West Virginia Mountaineers at Alex Box Stadium. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN.

This marks the Tigers’ 13th Super Regional held at home. LSU has claimed nine Super Regional titles, the latest being in 2023, and boasts a strong history with a 20-16 overall record in these matchups.

LSU, entering the tournament with a 46-15 record, is the No. 6 national seed and is positioned for a trip to the College World Series in Omaha should they win this series. The team recently captured its 27th NCAA Regional title by overcoming Little Rock in a tense winner-take-all game.

Coach Jay Johnson noted the challenges posed by West Virginia, highlighting the Mountaineers’ experienced roster. “West Virginia is a championship-level team with a lot of very talented and experienced players,” Johnson said. “Our players gained a lot of confidence from enjoying success in the high-stakes environment last week.”

The Tigers’ pitching staff has ranked in the top 10 nationally in several categories, including strikeouts and earned run average. LSU’s junior first baseman, Jared Jones, is a key player to watch, sitting third on the school’s career homers list with 62. Sophomore pitcher Kade Anderson currently ranks high nationally in strikeouts, adding to the team’s potent lineup.

West Virginia, sporting a 44-14 record and coming off winning the Clemson Regional, presents a formidable challenge of its own. The team has been aggressive on the bases, leading with 108 stolen bases this season and featured standout players like Sam White, who is hitting .352.

This is the first time in history that LSU and West Virginia will meet on the baseball diamond, and with both teams aiming for victory, anticipation is high for a thrilling matchup.

Game 2 of the series will be on Sunday, June 8, at 5 p.m. CT, followed by a possible Game 3 on June 9 if necessary.
