Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Cruise to Victory Against UJ Ladies in Hollywoodbets Super League Encounter
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies secured their third consecutive victory in the new Hollywoodbets Super League season with a commanding 2-0 win over the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Ladies at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Early goals from Chuene Morifi and Cimone Sauls maintained Banyana Ba Style‘s flawless start to the campaign.
Similar to their previous fixture against TS Galaxy Queens, the Brazilians initiated early pressure, leading to immediate success as Morifi netted her second goal of the season in the eighth minute.
Four minutes later, Sauls secured her first goal in Sundowns Ladies’ colors, extending the streak of impressive performances by new signings at Chloorkop. These goals not only sealed the victory but also secured a second clean sheet of the season.
Banyana Ba Style’s win against UJ Ladies marked their 11th consecutive league triumph and their 16th consecutive victory across all competitions.
Goalkeeper Sedilame Bosija, who started in goal for the first time this season, expressed her delight with the team’s overall defensive performance.
“I am excited about our performance today. We executed our defensive duties with determination, and it is satisfying to see our efforts pay off at both ends of the field. The early goals gave us a huge confidence boost and set the tone for the match. Kudos to the team for their outstanding performance. We are looking forward to building on this momentum in our next game,” the goalkeeper stated.
Fit-again Lerato Kgasago shared her thoughts on returning to the team and the significance of the victory for the Brazilians.
“We were aware of their confidence coming into this game and I am pleased with how we managed to break down their resistance early on. I am delighted to have played an hour of football and to be back fully fit. Collectively, the result is fantastic; we have simply continued from where we left off last time. We are all looking forward to the next game,” Kgasago said.
The victory means Sundowns Ladies are now the sole leaders of the Hollywoodbets Super League table, having secured 9 points from their first three games. The Brazilians have scored 11 goals and conceded just three times.
Boitumelo Rabale and Nthabiseng Majiya lead the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart with three goals each, followed by Chuene Morifi with two goals. Andisiwe Mgcoyi, Regina Mogolola and Cimone Sauls have each scored once.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will now turn their attention to the next fixture – a clash against the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Ladies scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 2024.
