Manchester United Squad Changes Summer 2025

MANCHESTER, England — Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has signaled a significant overhaul of the squad at the end of the current season, anticipating multiple player departures as the team seeks to reestablish its competitive edge.

Due to the club’s financial constraints, any new signings will depend on the sale of existing players. Amorim emphasized his commitment to transparency with his squad, stating, “We can talk about that [departures] at the end [of the season]. We have a lot of games to play. But that is clear, and I think that is not a difficult situation because everybody understands that in football; sometimes you stay, sometimes you have to move on.”

The 40-year-old coach, who took the reins in November, faces challenges in managing a squad amid speculation regarding the future of numerous players, including Victor Lindelöf, Jonny Evans, Tom Heaton, Harry Maguire, and Amad Diallo. Amorim reassured fans that while the club’s current situation is demanding, it is a step toward future success. “It’s hard because the perspectives can be different. So it’s hard to say if [the club] is honest or not. I felt that they were honest, but I need to see things and feel things myself,” he stated.

Amorim also addressed the ongoing debate around Maguire, who was notably omitted from the England squad for the Euro 2024, where England fell to a 2-1 defeat in the final. Despite questions about his captaincy and performance, Amorim believes Maguire deserves recognition based on his recent play. “If it’s enough is with the national coach. I would be really happy for him, I think he deserves [it],” Amorim mentioned.

As United prepares for the FA Cup fifth round clash on Sunday, Amorim acknowledged the critical role that experienced players like Jonathan Evans can play in fostering team leadership. Evans, a three-time Premier League champion, recently added an FA Cup winner’s medal last year, which reflects his considerable contributions to the squad.

Amid these transitions, midfielder Christian Eriksen has expressed pride in reaching over 300 Premier League appearances, sharing insights on his journey in English football. “I’m very proud. Obviously, it’s been a lot of years to get to that point. But I’m proud of any game I’ve played in the Prem,” he said.

The series of expected departures will not only free up space but also generate necessary funds for new acquisitions, pushing Manchester United towards its goal of rebuilding a more formidable squad. According to Amorim, while the path ahead may be steep, he has hope for the progress and eventual success of the club.
