Marcel Koller has elaborated on his strategy to maintain motivation among Al Ahly players following their remarkable achievements in recent years.

In an interview with Abu Dhabi TV, Koller stated, “We commenced training and preparations for the new season two weeks ago. The international players have had only two training sessions with us, and their fitness levels are still being assessed.”

“We are pleased with our performance, and our experience was pivotal in securing the victory. Scoring three goals while keeping a clean sheet is a source of great satisfaction for us,” he added.

Koller highlighted the performance of Yahya Attiyat Allah, saying, “Yahya had a good game. It was his first match with us, and his rhythm will continue to improve. Despite it being his first game in a while, his performance was promising. We substituted him because he experienced some discomfort.”

At 64, Koller reflected on his lifelong dedication to football, sharing that he strives to impart his experience and passion to the players, which fosters mutual motivation within the team.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining a motivated, refreshed squad given the numerous games and competitions they participate in. Effective player rotation is deemed crucial for their goal to win across all competitions.

Al Ahly began their CAF Champions League title defense with an impressive 3-0 win against Kenyan club Gor Mahia in Nairobi, extending their unbeaten streak to 23 games.

The return leg will take place in Cairo on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
