Mariah the Scientist Faces Frustration as Virtual Visit with Young Thug is Canceled
Mariah the Scientist, an R&B singer, recently expressed her frustration and disappointment after being unable to conduct a virtual visit with her incarcerated boyfriend, rapper Young Thug, at Cobb County Jail. The visit, planned in celebration of their three-year anniversary, was thwarted due to a technical system failure at the facility.
The Cobb County Jail issued a statement explaining that the visitation system experienced a temporary outage on October 6, which led to the cancellation of all visits scheduled for 4 and 5 p.m. Young Thug’s real name is Jeffery Williams, and the rapper’s scheduled visit fell within the affected time slot.
In an emotional Instagram Live session, Mariah shared her experience, describing how she had prepared for the visit by driving 30 minutes from the city, stopping by Party City to pick up a “Happy Anniversary” sign, and styling her hair for the occasion. “I done drove all the way to the motherf—ing jail,” she said. “I’m devastated. I’m looking cute…I can’t see my man on my anniversary, and I am sad, devastated.”
Mariah vowed to try again, despite her disappointment, and noted the long journey she had undertaken, albeit unsuccessfully, with her celebratory sign and Scotch tape. The artist has been vocally supportive of Young Thug throughout his incarceration, often attending his court appearances.
Young Thug has been imprisoned since May 2022 as part of the YSL RICO case, which has now burgeoned into the longest trial in Georgia’s history. Mariah the Scientist has maintained a strong connection with the rapper, highlighting in interviews how they communicate frequently. “I talk to him every day, all day,” she stated in May, describing her efforts to support him by attending court and expressing her continued commitment to her career as a form of encouragement for him.
