Memphis Tigers Secure Narrow Victory Over Florida State Seminoles
In a tightly contested matchup at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, the Memphis Tigers emerged victorious against the Florida State Seminoles. The game saw Memphis capitalizing on a strong defensive start to ultimately secure the win, despite a second-half push by Florida State.
Memphis initiated the game with vigor, forcing a turnover on Florida State’s second play. The Seminoles struggled offensively in the first half but found new energy in the latter parts of the game. The Tigers, however, managed to execute key plays under pressure, particularly with linebacker Chandler Martin playing a crucial role in hindering a late drive by Florida State.
In the second half, Memphis marched down the field for a 75-yard drive, culminating in a touchdown pass from Seth Henigan to Anthony Landphere, extending their lead to 20-3. Despite Florida State’s efforts to claw back, including a field goal and a touchdown from a pass by DJ Uiagalelei to Malik Benson, Memphis retained control.
Turnovers played a significant role, with Memphis benefiting from a muffed punt by Florida State, which Colby Cox recovered. This advantage allowed the Tigers to build their lead early on. Florida State’s struggles were evident, as Roydell Williams fumbled on their second play, providing Memphis the chance to score first with a field goal by Caden Costa.
While Florida State showed glimpses of effective play, the team could not overturn Memphis’ commanding lead. DJ Uiagalelei’s early interception set the tone for a difficult game for Florida State, despite their diligent attempts to reverse the momentum in the second half.
Looking forward, Memphis is presumed to be favored in their remaining games, bolstering their prospects as a potential College Football Playoff contender. Meanwhile, Florida State hopes to regroup and secure their first win of the season as they face upcoming opponents.
