MLB The Show 25 Promises Major Overhaul to Franchise Mode

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Major League Baseball fans eagerly await the release of MLB The Show 25, set to debut on March 18, 2025. Developed by San Diego Studio, the new installment promises significant enhancements, particularly for the widely played Franchise mode, which has remained relatively unchanged in recent years.
In a recent press release, the developers revealed a complete rework of Franchise mode aimed at increasing player involvement in team management. Features introduced include a new Front Office Experience, allowing users to take on the role of a general manager tasked with negotiating contracts and making crucial trades throughout the season.
According to San Diego Studio, the revamped free agency system is designed to be a “high risk-high reward” process. Players will have ongoing interactions with higher-profile free agents, necessitating careful decision-making through a new “Motivation” tracker. This feature encourages players to balance their negotiating strategies without overextending their budgets.
“Free agency and trades now evolve dynamically, with top teams influencing how other clubs approach roster moves,” the press release noted. Factors such as team reputation, market size, and competitive outlook will now hold substantial weight in player decision-making, alongside financial offers.
Franchise players will also need to prioritize their time during negotiations. If a general manager focuses too heavily on securing a star player, other potential signings may slip through their fingers as those players grow frustrated with a lack of communication. However, acting too hastily can lead to overspending, compromising future flexibility.
Notably, major market teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees are expected to set the pace for free agency moves. San Diego Studio aims to ensure trade logic better reflects real-world dynamics, but the company acknowledges the skepticism from players who have experienced previous disappointments with Franchise mode.
“If our adjustments yield the immersion and reward players have been seeking, perhaps this is the year Franchise mode finally feels refreshed,” stated a company representative.
Exciting new features include the introduction of Big Board, a tool that assists general managers in tracking and planning for upcoming free agents, along with improved commentary and franchise introductions that present cinematic storylines. League updates, minor league reports, and detailed stats will all be integrated into gameplay, enhancing the overall experience.
MLB The Show 25—available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch—aims to attract hardcore franchise gamers by encouraging strategic thinking and management skills reflective of real-world scenarios. As the release date approaches, many are anxious to see whether the changes meet the high expectations of the passionate fanbase.
“The depth and dynamics we are introducing to player negotiations and roster management should inspire players to engage with the game in entirely new ways,” said a developer.
With early access granted to players who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition starting March 14, MLB The Show 25 is poised to offer a fresh take on managing baseball teams on-screen, blending strategy with immersive gameplay.
