Mohammad Amir Announces Return To International Cricket, Available For T20 World Cup Selection

After a three-year retirement from international cricket, former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has officially announced his decision to return to the sport, making himself available for selection in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Amir, aged 31, expressed his aspirations to play for Pakistan once again in a heartfelt social media post, citing positive discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a key factor in his comeback.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in the USA and the West Indies in June this year, presenting a potential stage for Amir to make his international return.

Amir had bid adieu to international cricket back in December 2020 but has now reversed his decision, aiming to contribute to Pakistan’s campaign in the T20 World Cup if selected.

His recent performances for Quetta Gladiators in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) showcased his capabilities, despite a challenging run, finishing with 10 wickets in nine matches.

Having excelled in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with impressive numbers, Amir’s return could bolster Pakistan’s pace attack ahead of the T20 World Cup, especially with concerns around the fitness of other key bowlers.

Notably, Amir’s decision also means he will not be joining Derbyshire for the upcoming season, shifting his focus back to international duties with Pakistan.

With New Zealand set to visit Pakistan for a series of five T20Is in April, Amir’s availability for selection adds an intriguing dynamic to the national team’s bowling options, providing depth and experience.

The acknowledgment of head coach Mickey Arthur in Amir’s social media post suggests a positive environment for the fast bowler as he prepares to reignite his international career.
