Morgan Rogers Reflects on Aston Villa’s Performance Against Arsenal
Morgan Rogers has expressed the need for Aston Villa to regroup after a strong yet disappointing performance against Arsenal in their recent Premier League match. Although Villa ultimately lost, they displayed significant skill and resilience throughout the game.
During the match, Leon Bailey managed to intercept the ball from Gabriel in the final third, leading to a close-range header from the striker that was remarkably saved by David Raya early in the second half. Subsequently, Leandro Trossard entered the game as a substitute and scored the first goal for Arsenal in the 67th minute, followed by a second goal from Thomas Partey.
Rogers commented on the team’s performance, stating, ‘Outside both boxes we had the better of it through the majority of the game. I felt we were really good; I felt we competed.’ He acknowledged the quality of Arsenal as an opponent but noted that Villa managed to contain their threats effectively.
The player mentioned the importance of strategic preparation, stating, ‘We watched them [Arsenal], analysed them and tried to come up with a game plan to stop their threats.’ He indicated that Villa’s tactics included capitalizing on opportunities when they arose, which at times caught Arsenal off guard.
When addressing the missed chances by Ollie Watkins, Rogers emphasized his importance to the team. ‘He’s our talisman, we rely on him, we know he’ll score them,’ he stated, reflecting confidence in his teammate’s abilities. He reiterated that it is essential for the team to remain focused and learn from this experience.
Although Rogers has yet to score this season, he has played a crucial role in the team’s performances. In his own words, he remarked, ‘I want to go better, score goals, create and win games for the team.’ As the season progresses, he aims to enhance his contributions to ensure the success of Aston Villa.
