Nelly Korda Makes Strong Return at The Annika, Praises Course Conditions After Injury Layoff
Nelly Korda, the world No. 1 in women’s golf, made a notable return to competition at The Annika driven by Gainbridge, held at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. After a nearly two-month layoff due to a neck injury, Korda shot a 4-under 66 in the first round, placing her just two shots behind the leaders, Charley Hull and Jiwon Jeon, who both carded 6-under 64s[2].
Korda’s performance was impressive, especially given her recent absence from the game. She last played on September 22 at the Kroger Queen City Championship and had withdrawn from two events in Asia due to her injury. Despite some initial nerves, Korda finished strong with four birdies over her last five holes and chipped in for a birdie on the 18th hole[2].
In addition to her golf, Korda has been in the spotlight recently for her appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. When asked about the shoot, Korda shared her experience and the unique challenges of balancing her golf career with other endeavors[1].
Korda also praised the condition of the Pelican Golf Club, which had been severely affected by Hurricane Milton just a month ago. She commended the greenskeepers for their work in restoring the course to its current state, noting that the greens were “very, very pure”.
The tournament is crucial for several players, including Jiwon Jeon, who is ranked 98th in the LPGA’s points standings and is fighting to secure her LPGA card for the 2025 season. The top 100 players will retain full status, and the top 60 will qualify for the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in Naples[2][5]).
