Newcastle Dominates Manchester United in 4-1 Victory

NEWCASTLE, England — Harvey Barnes netted two goals to lead Newcastle United to a commanding 4-1 victory over Manchester United at St James’ Park on April 15, 2025. The triumph marks Newcastle’s first league double over Manchester United in 94 years and places them in a strong position for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Newcastle, playing without manager Eddie Howe due to illness, got off to a quick start with Sandro Tonali‘s goal in the 24th minute. However, Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho equalized shortly before halftime with a well-placed shot in the 37th minute.
The Magpies regained their lead just after the break when Barnes scored from close range in the 49th minute, following a smart set-up from Jacob Murphy. Barnes added a second goal in the 64th minute, taking advantage of a slip from United’s Noussair Mazraoui.
Bruno Guimaraes capped off the scoring in the 77th minute after a chipped clearance from United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir fell to him. Newcastle now has their sights set on an upcoming match against Crystal Palace, where a win could elevate them to third in the league.
“The players did an incredible job today,” Tindall said. “We had to adapt to a tough opponent, and I think we showed great character and determination throughout the match.”
Newcastle now sits fourth in the Premier League, with hopes high for a Champions League spot. Meanwhile, Manchester United faces an uphill battle, having already dropped out of contention for the league title.
This victory also continues a dismal streak for Manchester United, who will have to refocus for their upcoming Europa League quarterfinal match against Lyon. Meanwhile, Newcastle looks to build on their momentum as they aim for a stronger finish to the season.
With this performance, Newcastle’s players remain confident heading into the final weeks of the season. They are eager to maintain their form and compete for a coveted Champions League position.
