History was made at Suncorp Stadium as the NSW Blues secured a remarkable 2024 State of Origin victory against the Queensland Maroons, breaking a three-year drought in a thrilling three-minute onslaught that sealed a hard-fought 14-4 win.

With the majority of the 50,000-plus fans rallying behind the Maroons, the Blues faced a formidable challenge in the decider, making every meter of progress hard-earned. It was the exceptional performances by Jarome Luai and Mitchell Moses that ultimately turned the tide, orchestrating a series of plays that clinched the shield and sent it back down south.

In a game that saw the Blues dominate possession in the first half, holding the Maroons to just three tackles in their 20, it was Queensland who initially took the lead with a penalty goal courtesy of Valentine Holmes. However, the Blues fought back early in the second half, leveling the score through the boot of Zac Lomax.

With tensions high and every point crucial, the game took a dramatic turn when Luai, in a moment of brilliance, scooped up the ball, evaded defenders Jeremiah Nanai and Dane Gagai, and set up Bradman Best for a powerful try. Lomax’s precise conversion further solidified the Blues’ lead as Moses added another try soon after, showcasing his individual skill as he weaved through the Maroons’ defense.

The victory marked a historic moment for the NSW Blues, becoming only the third team to win a decider at Suncorp Stadium, following in the footsteps of the 1994 and 2005 sides. Despite the win, there were concerns for Parramatta as Moses left the field late, seemingly nursing an injury.
