NYC FC Defeats CF Montréal 2-0 in Disappointing Loss for Montréal
CF Montréal faced a disappointing loss against NYC FC in a 2-0 defeat in New York. The match showcased a superior performance from Alonso Martinez of NYC FC, who scored two impressive goals, contrasting with Montréal’s Josef Martinez who missed several scoring opportunities in the first half.
The game saw Montréal’s creative offensive pushes in the first half, with defenders swiftly transitioning into attacks and midfielders attempting various crosses and shots. However, the execution in the penalty area fell short multiple times.
Despite a good position at halftime, CF Montréal struggled in the second half, as Coach Laurent Courtois noted a mix-up between actions and rushes, leading to a lack of inspiration in the final third and conceding transitions.
Although Montréal had 51% possession and three shots on target compared to NYC FC’s seven, goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois‘s standout performance prevented a more significant goal margin for the hosts.
This defeat extends Montréal’s road winless streak, with only two wins away from home this season and no points earned against NYC FC since April 2019.
Matias Coccaro returned to play in the second half after being benched in the previous match due to behavioral issues during training. CF Montréal will face Vancouver Whitecaps in their next home game.
