Oswald Peraza Shines in Yankees’ Loss to A’s with Two-Run Home Run

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Oswald Peraza celebrated a key moment in his budding career as he smashed a two-run home run during Saturday’s game against the Oakland Athletics. The young infielder’s hit briefly gave the New York Yankees a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning, although the team ultimately lost 11-7.
Peraza’s powerful swing came off a sweeper from right-hander Justin Sterner, sending the ball down the left-field line and over the wall. It was Peraza’s second home run of the season and displayed his determination to maintain his place on the roster as DJ LeMahieu is set to return shortly.
“Definitely a special moment there,” Peraza said through interpreter Marlon Abreu. “Like I said, I’m really enjoying being part of this team and finding a way just to stay ready. The opportunities, you want to be ready for when they come.”
Despite limited playing time, Peraza expressed satisfaction in his recent performance. His line of 1-for-3 raised his batting average to .205. Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged Peraza’s improvements, stating, “He obviously hasn’t played a ton, but I feel like his at-bats have really improved from the start of the season.”
With LeMahieu’s anticipated return, Peraza may face tough competition for a roster spot, and Boone hinted that roster adjustments could be made by designating Peraza or two others for assignment.
The Yankees’ roster situation is complicated further by injuries and trades, including the recent transfer of righty Scott Effross to Double-A Somerset. Meanwhile, Peraza continues to take advantage of his current opportunities, relishing his time with the Yankees.
“Definitely enjoying being here and being part of this team,” he reiterated. “It’s a little difficult finding a way to stay ready sometimes, but I’m finding ways to prepare.”
As Peraza looks toward the future, he is determined to harness each opportunity he gets with the team.
