Pacers’ Haliburton Faces Backlash After Disappointing Game 3 Performance

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers faced criticism following a dismal performance in Game 3 of the NBA playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. The Cavaliers secured a 126-104 victory, cutting into the Pacers’ series lead.
Haliburton, who played the most minutes of any Pacers player, managed to score only four points, marking a playoff career low. He shot just 2-of-8 from the field and contributed five assists. His lack of offensive production was a significant factor in Indiana’s loss. Following the game, he was not made available to the media, prompting frustration and backlash.
James Boyd of The Athletic reported on social media, “Pacers PR did not make Tyrese Haliburton available to the media tonight. He’ll talk tomorrow, per PR.” Many critics argued that as the face of the franchise, Haliburton should face the media regardless of his performance.
Sports editor Matt Glenesk tweeted, “Can’t be the face of a franchise and then hide, IMO.” His sentiment reflects the growing expectation for star players to take responsibility, even after poor outings.
Despite the criticism, Haliburton later clarified his absence from the media session was not his choice. At practice on Saturday, he stated, “I talk to y’all after almost every game. If I’m not made available, it’s not always my decision.” He expressed willingness to engage with reporters and said he would address any questions regarding his performance.
The Pacers still lead the best-of-seven series 2-1. They won the first two games in Cleveland but will need to regroup quickly for Game 4 scheduled for Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
Haliburton acknowledged the disappointment of the loss and stated, “I’ve gone through harder times than last night,” emphasizing his desire to take on the challenge and improve.
As Indiana prepares for the next game, the team’s ability to reset and Haliburton’s performance will be crucial if they aim to maintain their playoff momentum.
