Pakistan Super League Cricket Match Postponed

Islamabad, Pakistan — The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on May 8, 2025, that several matches in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be rescheduled due to increasing tensions between India and Pakistan.

During an emergency meeting in Islamabad, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi discussed the situation with foreign players after a drone fell within the Rawalpindi Stadium complex. A match between the Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi that was set to take place has been postponed. Heavy rain also complicated the situation, making the match unlikely to proceed regardless.

The PCB stated that the drone incident was linked to conflicts with India, which involved drone and missile exchanges. Pakistan attributed several downed drones across the country to Indian forces, while India claimed they acted in retaliation to attacks reportedly backed by Pakistan.

The board’s official statement confirmed, “The PCB is reviewing the situation and will be rescheduling some of the PSL matches. Further updates will be provided as matters are finalized.” There are currently eight games left in the season, with four scheduled in Rawalpindi, one in Multan, and three in Lahore.

Concerns over security have emerged among foreign players, particularly after missile attacks in Pakistan earlier that week killed at least 31 civilians. The Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) reported mixed opinions among players regarding their continuation in the league, with some contemplating leaving. The PCB has reassured that current security measures remain unchanged.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated it is also in close contact with its players in the PSL, ensuring their safety during their stay. Similarly, Cricket West Indies (CWI) is monitoring the situation to prioritize player welfare, stating, “The welfare of our people remains our highest priority.”

As the situation unfolds, the PCB has indicated they will work on possible alternate arrangements, including moving remaining matches to Dubai, but logistics may prove challenging. The final of the PSL is still scheduled for May 18 in Lahore, pending any further developments.
