Pereira Eyeing Middleweight Return After Du Plessis Win

Alex Pereira has hinted at a possible return to the middleweight division following Dricus du Plessis‘ impressive victory over Israel Adesanya. After the fight at UFC 305, Pereira took to Instagram to express his interest in dropping back down to 185 pounds, writing, “Coming down to 185 one more time.”

Pereira, who previously held the UFC middleweight championship, won the title by defeating Adesanya before losing it in a rematch. Since then, he has moved up to the light heavyweight division and captured the championship there.

His recent success in the light heavyweight category has included knockouts against top contenders like Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka. Pereira’s next fight is scheduled for October 5, where he will defend his light heavyweight title for the third time.

Even though Pereira’s latest post excited many fans, some believe that moving back to middleweight might not happen. Rumors are swirling about him potentially moving up to heavyweight instead, seeking tougher challenges.

There has also been buzz about a possible matchup with interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, who even extended an invitation to Pereira for a bout. However, UFC president Dana White dismissed those talks.

Meanwhile, the middleweight division is heating up. With Dricus du Plessis now positioned as the champion, speculation abounds about who his next opponent will be. Fighters like Sean Strickland and Robert Whittaker are both in contention for a title shot.
