CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — The third round of the 2025 PGA Championship was delayed Saturday due to lightning in the area. Play resumed at 11:43 a.m. with golfers teeing off in threesomes from split tees.

After two rounds, Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuela leads the tournament by two strokes. He is at 8-under par, with competitors Matt Fitzpatrick, Si Woo Kim, and Matthieu Pavon trailing behind. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Max Homa are tied at 5-under, three strokes off the lead.

The cutline settled at 1-under, meaning several high-profile players, including Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, were eliminated after the second round. Spieth is looking to achieve a career Grand Slam, following Rory McIlroy‘s recent victory at the Masters.

The tournament, hosted at Quail Hollow Club, features a par 71 course measuring 7,626 yards. Designed in 1959 by George Cobb, the course is famed for its challenging stretch known as ‘The Green Mile,’ which includes holes 16, 17, and 18.

Weather conditions have resulted in a longer and softer course, though officials from the PGA of America have decided against introducing ‘lift, clean and place’ rules, stating that the playing surfaces are outstanding.

Despite a rocky finish to the second round, Vegas remains optimistic. “Even though it’s never easy to give two shots away right at the end, there’s a lot of golf left, so I’ve got to keep remembering the good stuff,” he said.

The 2025 PGA Championship will run from May 15 to May 18, with live coverage available on talkSPORT and Sky Sports.
