Philadelphia 76ers Likely to Part Ways with Tobias Harris Following Playoff Exit
Following the Philadelphia 76ers‘ postseason elimination by the New York Knicks in Game 6, the future of Tobias Harris with the team is uncertain.
Sources close to the league suggest that Tobias Harris is expected to explore free agency this summer, signaling a probable departure from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Harris, whose recent contract with the 76ers has expired, is reportedly not a part of the team’s immediate plans as they maintain cap space for significant acquisitions.
The Philadelphia 76ers have been linked to potential targets in the offseason, including Paul George, Jimmy Butler, and Brandon Ingram, as they aim to leverage their financial flexibility.
The team is set to have approximately $60 million in cap space and multiple first-round picks at their disposal for potential trades during the upcoming offseason.
In the event that Tyrese Maxey secures an All-NBA selection, he could become eligible for a substantial rookie max extension, projected to be around $247.1 million over five years.
Contrarily, if Maxey fails to earn All-NBA honors, he could still sign a contract worth a projected $205.9 million over the same duration.
While Tobias Harris is unlikely to obtain a contract similar to his previous deal due to his age and performance, his consistent contributions make him an intriguing free agency prospect.
During the 2021-2022 regular season, Harris maintained an average of 17.2 points on a stellar 48.7% shooting accuracy along with 6.5 rebounds per game over 70 appearances.
Throughout the playoff series against the New York Knicks, Harris struggled, frequently scoring below 10 points per game and notably failing to register points in pivotal moments, such as Game 6.
