Pothole Causes Chaos on Highway 401 in Toronto

About a dozen vehicles experienced tire failures and deflations on Highway 401 in Toronto after hitting a deep pothole on the roadway.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt confirmed that the pothole was located in the eastbound collector lanes close to Yonge Street. The incident led to unexpected tire issues for the drivers, with approximately 12 vehicles affected by the pothole.

Sgt. Schmidt mentioned that the Ministry of Transportation crews were summoned to mend the damaged section of the highway. During the repair work, the left lane was temporarily blocked, causing a delay in traffic flow. However, all lanes have been reopened since then.

An officer who arrived at the scene also felt the pothole firsthand and expressed his surprise at not getting a flat tire himself. The situation was described as challenging by the officer, underlining the impact of the pothole on the affected vehicles.

Traffic congestion built up in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Yonge Street due to the closure enforced as a result of the significant pothole. Drivers in the area experienced delays as authorities worked to resolve the issue swiftly.
