Racing Prepares for Crucial Sudamericana Match in Montevideo

MADRID, Spain — Racing Club is set to face América de Cali on April 2, 2025, in Montevideo, Uruguay, for the opening match of Group C in the Copa Sudamericana. After a strong home performance, Racing’s confidence remains high as they embark on this away game at the historic Estadio Centenario.
This will mark Racing’s second consecutive away match in the tournament, following their prior game against Barranquilla. Both the draw and their performance this season have put them in a favorable position for advancement to the knockout stages, emphasizing their goal to secure a title they have yet to claim.
“We have a very good opportunity to represent the country; the team is clear on that, and we are really excited to start in an international cup,” Racing’s coach Jorge Da Silva stated, highlighting the importance of this match for the club.
Racing’s statistics offer a glimpse of their readiness. With 21 goals scored and only six goals conceded in their last matches, they boast a strong attacking front led by maestro Duván Vergara and in-form striker Rodrigo Holgado, who has netted six goals recently.
Currently, Racing sits fifth in their league standings, having won four of their last five matches, including an impressive victory against Peñarol. This track record showcases their cohesive and disciplined play, contributing to a total of 10 goals scored and six allowed.
<p“It's going to be a tough match against an aggressive team that will try not to let us play our game. They don’t have any standout stars, but we have to respect them,” Da Silva added about their upcoming opponents, hinting at the competitive nature of the match.
The presence of Juan Fernando Quintero, a key midfielder who won the Copa Sudamericana with Racing in 2024, adds more depth and experience to the squad as they navigate this critical matchup.
The highly anticipated game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. local time. Racing’s lineup is expected to feature Lautaro Amadé in goal; with Agustín Pereira, Guillermo Cotugno, Lucas Monzón, and Martín Ferreira in defense; Thiago Espinosa, Lucas Rodríguez, Mateo Cáceres, and Santiago Ramírez in midfield; alongside forwards Esteban Da Silva and Sebastián Sosa.
For América, the starting lineup will include goalkeeper Jorge Soto; defenders Yerson Candelo, Jean Pestaña, Éder Álvarez Balanta, and Marcos Mina; midfielders José Cavadía, Rafael Carrascal; along with Cristian Barrios, Quintero, Vergara, and Holgado leading the attack.
