Record Breaking Success At 2024 Chemist Warehouse Sydney Track Classic

Mixing tradition with the new wave of Australian athletics talent, the 2024 Chemist Warehouse Sydney Track Classic at E.S Marks Athletics Field showcased exceptional performances across various disciplines.

Australia’s sprinters celebrated a historic moment by setting a new national 4x100m record of 42.94 seconds. The team comprised of Ebony Lane, Bree Masters, Ella Connolly, and Torrie Lewis, who recently broke the Australian individual 100m record. Their achievement surpassed a 24-year-old mark previously held by a team anchored by sprinting legend Melinda Gainsford-Taylor.

Leading the charge in the distance events, Jessica Hull and Cameron Myers demonstrated their prowess at the Australian 3000m Championships. Hull’s commanding performance secured her victory, clocking 8:37.18, while Cameron Myers showed his potential by clinching the men’s title in 8:46.38.

In the field events, high jumper Liz Clay continued her successful comeback with a win, while a tight finish in the 100m hurdles saw Liz Clay edge out Michelle Jenneke by a mere three-thousandths of a second.

Notable names such as Georgia Griffith, Rose Davies, Abbey Caldwell, Catriona Bisset, Luke Boyes, Chelsea Scolyer, Olivia Dodds, Zara Hagan, Jessica Milat, Rohan Browning, Mali Lovell, Jaydon Page, Cooper Sherman, Mikeala Selaidinakos, and Chris Mitrevski added to the excitement of the event with their stellar performances.

The Sydney Track Classic marked the conclusion of the 2024 Chemist Warehouse Summer Series, setting the stage for the upcoming Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide.
