Rhys Hoskins Signs Two Year Contract With Milwaukee Brewers

After missing the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL, Rhys Hoskins has found a new home with the Milwaukee Brewers. The 30-year-old first baseman has agreed to a $34 million, two-year contract with the Brewers, filling their opening at first base. The deal is pending a physical.

Hoskins, who was the second-longest tenured player with the Philadelphia Phillies, had a strong rookie season in 2017 and continued to be a consistent power hitter for the team. In 2022, he recorded a .246 batting average with 30 home runs and 79 RBIs.

The Brewers, who won the NL Central last year, are looking to strengthen their lineup with Hoskins’ power bat. They had Rowdy Tellez and Carlos Santana at first base in 2023, but Tellez was released and Santana remains a free agent. The addition of Hoskins gives them another reliable option at that position.

Other potential players who could fill in at first base for the Brewers include Jake Bauers, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees in November, and potentially Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm, who both made starts at first for the Phillies in Hoskins’ absence.
