Richmond Football Club has officially announced that Jack Graham, a key player for the club, has decided to move to West Coast Eagles as a free agent. The 26-year-old, known for his significant contributions to Richmond, played 131 games since his debut from the 2016 AFL Draft where he was picked at 53rd position.

Graham was the youngest member of the club’s 2017 premiership team and was celebrated for his performance in the Grand Final where he managed to score three goals in just his fifth AFL appearance. Despite suffering a dislocated shoulder during the 2019 preliminary final, Graham pushed through, though the injury prevented him from playing in the 2019 Grand Final. This effort earned him the prestigious Club Francis Bourke Award.

Speaking about his departure, Graham expressed gratitude towards Richmond, stating, “I’m just so grateful for the Richmond Football Club for giving me the opportunity eight years ago.” He added, “Jordy and I are very excited by [the move], but at the same time, it is sad to say goodbye to so many good people.” Graham also acknowledged the unwavering support of Richmond fans, known as the “Tiger Army,” stating, “They show support through the tough times, and the good times. They are very loyal fans.”

Blair Hartley, Richmond’s General Manager-Football Talent, thanked Graham for his contributions, saying, “We all thank Jack for all he has given to Richmond. He is a player that left nothing out on the field.” He noted Graham’s role in securing two premierships for the club, describing it as invaluable.

The AFL confirmed on Tuesday that Richmond will receive Band 4 compensation, currently pick 42, in this year’s draft for Graham’s move. This follows last week’s decisions involving other free agents where St Kilda and Collingwood received Band 1 compensations for their departing players, raising discussions about the current draft compensation system.

West Coast’s list boss, Matt Clarke, expressed enthusiasm over Graham’s inclusion, saying, “Jack will add another mature and experienced body to our midfield mix, and he is in the age profile we are looking to bolster amongst our squad.”
