Ricky Castillo’s Brother Caddies for Him in PGA Tour Rookie Season

San Diego, California – Ricky Castillo has found his footing on the PGA Tour in his rookie season, thanks in part to his brother, Derek, who is serving as his caddie. The duo has a long history of working together, reinforcing their bond both on and off the course.
Castillo, who rose through the ranks via the 2024 points list, experienced a significant milestone when he became the youngest winner of the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour season at the Wichita Open. Derek was not part of that victory, but his support has been instrumental during Ricky’s transition to the PGA Tour.
As Castillo’s rookie season has progressed, his brother has taken on the caddie role, and Ricky has expressed confidence in him. “It’s a huge help. He knows exactly how I like to play the game and every distance and what I’m good at,” Castillo said. “We play with each other all the time, so we know how each other’s games are, so it’s really helpful to have someone like that on the bag.”
Derek, born in 1998, is not just a caddie; he is an accomplished player in his own right. He attended California State University, Fullerton, where he played for the Titans golf team and was named Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month in March 2020 during his senior year. After turning professional, he competed on the PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamérica, achieving a best finish of T41 at the 2022 Diners Club Peru Open.
Though Derek has not reached the PGA Tour as a player, his role as Ricky’s caddie allows him to remain closely connected to the game. He has even caddied on the LPGA Tour, showcasing his diverse experience in golf.
As Ricky Castillo navigates his inaugural season on the PGA Tour, having his brother by his side provides both support and familiarity on the challenging journey ahead.
