Seattle Sounders Face Colorado Rapids in Crucial Matchup

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Seattle Sounders will face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, marking their first of two meetings this season. The match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park kicks off at 6:30 p.m. PT (7:30 p.m. local time).
Fans can tune in to the game on 93.3 KJR FM and El Rey 1360 AM. The Sounders enter the match with a record of 3-3-3, placing them eighth in the Western Conference, while the Rapids, with a record of 4-2-3, sit fifth.
Previously, the Sounders defeated the Rapids 1-0 in their last meeting on October 5, 2024. The goal came from a second-half shot, showcasing Seattle’s resilience on the road.
This season, Seattle is looking for a strong performance from Designated Player attacker who recently scored his first home MLS goal. His efforts have contributed to the Sounders winning two consecutive matches.
Defender Kim has emerged as a steadying presence after coming off the bench mid-match against FC Dallas on April 12. His leadership helped the Sounders secure three consecutive scoreless halves.
Last week marked the return of players who were sidelined due to injuries, giving the Sounders a much-needed boost as they aim to build on their recent successes.
Saturday’s match highlights contrasting styles of play. The Sounders hold the fourth spot in MLS for possession, averaging 55%. In contrast, Colorado is designed to play defensively, with an average possession rate of below 44%—the fourth-lowest in the league.
Despite Colorado’s fifth-place ranking for Expected Goals, Seattle recently contained Nashville, who are just ahead of them in that category.
The Sounders may also confront former midfielder Josh Atencio, who transferred to the Rapids in February for up to $1.6 million in General Allocation Money.
Look out for forward Rafael Navarro, who carries momentum into this season after scoring 15 goals last year. He has already netted five goals in just over 800 minutes of play.
