Kentucky Storm Weather Forecast

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two rounds of strong storms are predicted to sweep through Kentucky and southern Indiana from Friday night into Saturday night, posing risks of severe weather, including strong winds and heavy rainfall.

This week has brought abnormally warm temperatures, with highs soaring more than 20 degrees above normal. The unseasonably warm weather has created conditions ripe for severe storms, prompting meteorologists to issue warnings.

The first round of storms is expected to develop on Friday evening as a low-pressure system moves from the Upper Midwest into the region. Meteorologists anticipate these storms will reach Kentuckiana shortly after midnight and start to weaken by sunrise on Saturday, although strong winds and potential tornadoes remain a threat.

“With this first wave of storms, we expect strong winds to be the primary threat, along with the possibility of spin-up tornadoes,” said a local meteorologist. “There will be enough shear in the atmosphere for the storms that hold together.”

The storms will likely weaken as they reach the eastern parts of the area by Saturday morning, but residents are advised to stay alert for weather warnings, especially given the overnight timing.

The second round of storms is projected to begin Saturday afternoon and extend into the overnight hours. This wave is expected to bring widespread showers and thunderstorms across the region.

“We’re looking at a more expansive system Saturday evening,” the meteorologist noted. “Heavy rain and strong winds will be the main threats during this round.”

Forecasters predict rainfall amounts between 1-3 inches, particularly heavier along and south of the Parkways, as an approaching cold front moves through the area early Sunday morning.

“We urge residents to keep a close eye on the updated forecast throughout the weekend,” the meteorologist concluded. “Conditions may change as we continue to fine-tune the details.”
