FOX Weather Meteorologist Steve Bender and storm tracker Corey Gerken are on alert as severe storms threaten the eastern United States in a multiday outbreak.

April typically marks the start of severe weather season, and this year is no exception as a widespread multiday severe weather outbreak is forecasted to impact tens of millions of Americans in the eastern half of the country through Tuesday.

NOAA‘s Storm Prediction Center issued the year’s first tornado watch Monday, centered over central and eastern Missouri and far North Carolina, where storms could produce tornadoes.

Severe storms erupted in the central U.S. on Monday afternoon, with reports of hail the size of hen eggs in Logan, Oklahoma, and wind damage in various areas across Texas, Kansas, and Missouri.

Wind damage has also been reported, including multiple power poles knocked down near Sweetwater, Texas, and a roof ripped off a home in Shackelford, Texas where winds reached 88 mph.

Both Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm watches were issued Monday for several states, with a Level 3 out of 5 risk zone remaining in a swath from Texas to Ohio.

Storms packing threats of destructive hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes will continue into Monday night across a broad area from the southern Plains, the Ozarks, and into portions of the mid-Mississippi and Ohio valleys.

The severe weather threat is expected to spread eastward into Tuesday, affecting major cities such as Cincinnati, Nashville, and along Interstate 95 from Baltimore to Washington.

The tornado threat is forecasted to be greatest from Middle Tennessee into central and northern Kentucky, with the SPC highlighting an area covering much of Ohio as having the highest likelihood of ‘significant/long-tracked tornadoes’ on Tuesday.

A few lingering severe thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday across parts of the mid-Atlantic and Carolina as the storm system tracks toward the East Coast, including cities along Interstate 95.
