Spring Snowstorm Hits Southern Ontario: Snowfall Warnings in Effect
A spring snowstorm has descended on Southern Ontario, prompting snowfall warnings in multiple regions. Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area are bracing for up to 15 cm of snow as the storm moves across the area. The snowfall is expected to intensify late in the afternoon, potentially causing disruptions to the evening commute in urban centers.
Sweeping from Hamilton in the west to Kingston and Gananoque in the east around Lake Ontario, the warnings cover a large swath of populated areas including Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, and Oshawa. Meteorologists predict that certain areas may experience localized heavier snowfall due to an easterly wind tapping into cooler air.
Starting tonight, Lakeshore West service between West Harbour GO and Union Station will be temporarily suspended for track work. Pearson International Airport is also preparing for possible flight disruptions, with crews readying specialized snow removal equipment.
Temperatures are expected to drop, with highs of -1 C in Toronto today. However, a slight warm-up is forecasted for the weekend, bringing sunny skies and highs of 4 C on Saturday and 3 C on Sunday. Monday could see a high of 8 C, signaling a shift towards milder weather.
