The Melbourne Storm showcased their dominance in the National Rugby League with a resounding 50-12 victory against the Brisbane Broncos. This match, held during Round 27, was particularly significant as it marked Craig Bellamy‘s 400th win as an NRL coach.

Jahrome Hughes delivered an outstanding performance, scoring three tries and assisting in two others. Will Warbrick also made a notable contribution with three tries and an impressive 249 metres run during the game. The Storm’s offensive strategy proved effective early on, as they scored four tries within the first 21 minutes of the match.

Despite a brief resurgence from the Broncos, highlighted by rookie Josh Rogers‘ try, the Storm quickly regained control. Harry Grant added another try before halftime, effectively dismantling any momentum the Broncos had hoped to build.

After the halftime break, the Storm continued their offensive pressure. Hughes scored his second try, while Xavier Coates, returning from injury, also crossed the line. Both Hughes and Warbrick completed their hat-tricks by the end of the game, further solidifying the Storm’s commanding performance.

The Storm’s assertive approach was evident, as Cameron Munster expressed a pre-game desire to treat this match as a finals warm-up. His comments reflected the team’s objective to maintain relentless pressure throughout the game.

Conversely, the Broncos faced significant challenges, with Coach Kevin Walters emphasizing the need for his players to demonstrate pride in their performances. However, the team struggled defensively, allowing nine tries and missing a staggering 48 tackles.

Cooper Cronk noted this match marked the fourth instance in six games where the Broncos conceded over 40 points, raising concerns about the team’s performance as the season draws to a close.

Jahrome Hughes’ exceptional performance not only aided the Storm in their victory but also positioned him as a strong contender for the Dally M medal, elevating his profile as one of the season’s standout players.
