Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has openly expressed his admiration for Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand. Troost-Ekong recently named Ferdinand as one of the players he would willingly give up his No.5 jersey for, amidst the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations competition.

After Nigeria’s impressive victory over South Africa, securing their place in the AFCON final, Troost-Ekong took to his X account to praise the former Manchester United player.

During the match against South Africa, Troost-Ekong displayed exceptional skills, contributing significantly to the Super Eagles’ success against the Bafana Bafana. This victory has ensured a final clash against the host nation, Ivory Coast.

Prior to the match, Rio Ferdinand had shown his support for the Super Eagles by posting several Nigerian flags on X. He also shared a picture of himself holding a Super Eagles jersey with ‘Ferdinand 5’ boldly written on it.

Troost-Ekong retweeted Ferdinand’s post, stating, ‘One of the few players I would be willing to give my number up for! Legend!’
