Directive 8020 Gameplay Trailer Supermassive Games

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 12, 2025 — Supermassive Games has announced its upcoming sci-fi horror game, Directive 8020, set for release on October 2, 2025, during the PlayStation State of Play event. The game, part of The Dark Pictures Anthology, is designed to immerse players in a chilling narrative aboard a colony ship infected with an alien organism.

Will Doyle, Creative Director at Supermassive Games, introduced the game, emphasizing the intense challenges players will encounter on the Cassiopeia, a vessel sent to explore a new planet as Earth faces ecological collapse. “We’ve worked tirelessly to craft a narrative experience that melds sci-fi exploration with spine-chilling horror, where every choice could lead to a disastrous death,” Doyle said.

The plot unfolds as the crew, awakening from four years of hypersleep, discovers a hull breach and a murder onboard. The situation escalates rapidly, with the ship ultimately crash-landing on an alien planet. Players will navigate the wreckage of the Cassiopeia while contending with the pervasive, unsettling threat of the alien organism.

The trailer reveals that the alien entity can replicate any crew member, creating paranoia and distrust. “While you may be human, others in your crew may not be, and killers can hide behind familiar eyes,” Doyle explained. To survive, players will have to effectively utilize stealth mechanics to outsmart their alien stalkers.

The game promises engaging survival horror mechanics, requiring players to solve puzzles and use various tools to overcome obstacles and threats. Among these tools is a multifunctional utility strap equipped with a shoulder-mounted flashlight, which players must use cautiously due to the visibility it provides to enemy creatures. A scanner for detecting electronics and a messaging device to communicate with crewmates will also feature prominently throughout the gameplay.

Directive 8020 will allow players to control five different crew members, with each character’s fate hinging on the player’s decisions. “With their lives in your hands, your decisions will determine not only their fates but all of humanity’s too,” Doyle stated during the reveal.

Supermassive Games is known for their previous successful titles within The Dark Pictures Anthology, and fans can expect the continuation of branching storylines and critical choices that influence the game’s outcome. “The DNA of The Dark Pictures is still present,” Doyle noted, promising enhanced gameplay mechanics and a more immersive experience.

The release of Directive 8020 marks another milestone in Supermassive Games’ ongoing dedication to delivering gripping, innovative horror experiences. As the October launch date approaches, anticipation continues to build for the next addition to The Dark Pictures Anthology. Players can wishlist the game now on PlayStation 5 and prepare for a harrowing journey through the unknown.
