CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Tar Heels will begin their postseason run as the No. 3 seed in the ACC Championship, taking on the No. 14 seed Boston College in the quarterfinals on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET. This year’s tournament features a single-elimination format with all 16 teams competing.

UNC secured a double-bye after finishing the conference season with an 18-11 record. Under head coach Scott Forbes, the Tar Heels hold an impressive 8-3 record in the ACC tournament, previously winning the championship in 2022. Historically, the program holds a record of 92-73 in the tournament, ranking second in total wins with NC State.

Jake Knapp, a standout pitcher for the Tar Heels, was named the 2025 ACC Pitcher of the Year, marking the first time Carolina has received this honor since 2017. Knapp excelled in conference play, finishing with a 10-0 record and leading the league in several categories, including earned run average (ERA), opposing batting average, and innings pitched.

In a recent matchup, Knapp faced off against Jamie Arnold of Florida State, achieving a complete game victory with seven strikeouts and allowing only four hits. This performance highlighted the strength of UNC’s pitching staff, which leads the ACC in ERA and several other statistical categories.

Carolina’s upcoming game against Boston College follows the Eagles’ successful run, where they defeated Notre Dame and Virginia. Earlier in the season, UNC won two out of three against BC in a series held in Brighton, Massachusetts, igniting a seven-series victory streak for the Tar Heels.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Knapp as he attempts to repeat his successful pitching from the regular season. Fans are eager to see if the Tar Heels can capture another ACC Championship title.
