Texas Leads Game 3 of Women’s College World Series Finals 5-0

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Texas Longhorns jumped to an early lead in Game 3 of the Women’s College World Series finals against Texas Tech, scoring five runs in the first inning on June 6, 2025.
Starting pitcher NiJaree Canady struggled early for Texas Tech, allowing four consecutive singles that led to two runs before Leighann Goode hit a three-run home run. This put the Longhorns firmly in control, showcasing their batters’ confidence and readiness to capitalize on mistakes.
“It’s a way to start a championship game. We’ve worked hard to get to this point, and everyone is just focused on the task at hand,” said Longhorns infielder Reese Atwood.
Texas Tech managed to bring in starter Chloe Riassetto to replace Canady in the second inning, marking her first appearance in the World Series. Riassetto quickly got into a rhythm, allowing only one hit in her opening inning, giving her team some hope as they looked to get their offense rolling.
The Longhorns have shown strength on the offensive side of the game. Two key players, Atwood and Mia Scott, have become vital components of their batting lineup. Both players especially excelled during the championship series, with Scott hitting her fourth home run in World Series history.
“We know we need to keep the momentum going. It’s not over until the last out. These games can change fast,” Scott added.
As the innings progress, Texas Tech will need to adjust their strategy quickly to avoid falling further behind against a Texas team that has clearly found its rhythm.
The Longhorns command a 5-0 lead in the first inning as they aim for their first national title, while Texas Tech seeks a way to mount a comeback before it’s too late.
