TPC Sawgrass Unveils Stunning New Practice Green for Players and Caddies

TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, has introduced a striking new practice green for players and caddies, transforming what was once a lake into a haven for golf enthusiasts.

Head of course maintenance, Jeff Plotts, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., spearheaded the innovative project with his dedicated team who brought the vision to life.

The new practice green boasts top-notch pale TifEagle Bermuda grass, providing a picturesque setting for golfers as they transition from the 9th green to the 10th tee.

The previous cramped area behind the 10th tee has been replaced by a spacious 6,000 square foot green meticulously designed by the PGA Tour’s course architect, Steve Wenzloff.

Plotts envisions this new green becoming a preferred practice spot for local players, including those from the Korn Ferry tour, thanks to its serene and secluded ambiance.

Improving upon the course’s aesthetics without disrupting its essence is a mission inspired by the subtle yet effective enhancements made at Augusta National, a hallmark of which is Plotts’ admiration for.

Fanny Sunesson, a former caddie for Nick Faldo and now a European TV golf analyst, commended the discreet changes made by Plotts and his team at TPC Sawgrass, highlighting the course’s enhanced playability and visual appeal.

During a practice round, Australian golfer Cam Davis marveled at the transformation, realizing he was walking across what used to be a lake – a testament to the remarkable metamorphosis of the landscape.

Plotts, a devoted student of course architect Pete Dye, possesses an unparalleled knowledge of every element on the course, from plants to wildlife, reflecting his deep connection to the intricacies of TPC Sawgrass.

As players and caddies now tread on the new pristine green instead of a cart path, the legacy of the erstwhile lake continues to evolve, providing a fresh and invigorating experience for all who traverse the course.
