Minnesota Twins Game Highlights

MILWAUKEE — The Minnesota Twins‘ 13-game winning streak came to an abrupt end on Sunday as they fell to the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2. The defeat halted what was the second-longest win streak in Twins history, trailing only their 15-game stretch in 1991.

The game started with Twins pitcher Zebby Matthews, who was called up from Triple-A St. Paul. Unfortunately, Matthews lasted only three innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out five and walking three.

The Brewers were the first to score, taking a 4-0 lead by the third inning. Twins batting prospects appeared to be rallying when Louis Lewis hit a home run, but the opportunity was stolen when Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick robbed him of a potential tying homer.

Frelick, who contributed a run in the second inning, praised his defensive play, expressing, “That’s the first home-run robbery I’ve ever had. Just to be able to show the ability to do that, I’m happy about that.”

Just before the game, the Twins placed left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe on the 15-day injured list due to a left forearm extensor strain. Coulombe had been a crucial part of the bullpen, pitching 16.2 scoreless innings this season.

“It’s obviously not good, but I’m not overly concerned,” said Twins manager Rocco Baldelli of Coulombe’s injury. “He’s shown good improvement, but he’s not ready to pitch quite yet.”

To replace Coulombe, the Twins also activated outfielder Carson McCusker, who has yet to make his big league debut but has been impressive at St. Paul with a .350 batting average, 10 homers, and 36 RBIs this season.

The Twins’ collective 3.15 ERA ranked third in the majors before this game. The offense has been resilient, but the injury to key players like Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton continues to challenge their depth.

With their winning streak behind them, the Twins still look to bounce back in future games this season, but they will need to recover quickly from these roster disruptions.
