Two British Columbia Sailors Found Dead in Boat Washed Ashore on Sable Island
Authorities in Nova Scotia are investigating the tragic discovery of two individuals from British Columbia found deceased in a boat that washed ashore on Sable Island, located approximately 300 kilometers southeast of Halifax.
The incident came to light after Parks Canada alerted the Nova Scotia RCMP about a small three-meter inflatable boat that was discovered on the island’s shore with the bodies of the two individuals aboard.
The deceased individuals, a 70-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman from British Columbia, are believed to have been traveling on a larger vessel named Theros, with the inflatable boat likely serving as their lifeboat.
Reports indicate that the pair had been reported missing to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax on June 18. They had set sail from Halifax Harbour on June 11, heading towards the Azores archipelago, a remote group of islands in Portugal.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased individuals, as the Nova Scotia medical examiner service is currently working to identify the bodies.
The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, with collaboration and support from various entities including Parks Canada, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.
