Warriors Eye Nikola Vučević as Bulls Consider Major Trade Moves
CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago Bulls are actively exploring trade options for veteran center Nikola Vučević as the NBA’s Feb. 6 trade deadline approaches, with the Golden State Warriors emerging as a potential suitor. Vučević, 34, has experienced a resurgence this season, shooting a career-best 41.1% from 3-point range and averaging 20.3 points per game, making him an attractive target for teams seeking a versatile big man.
The Warriors, who have already been active in the trade market this winter, are looking to retool their roster around stars Steph Curry and Draymond Green. Vučević’s $20 million annual contract and consistent performance make him a viable option for Golden State as they aim to bolster their frontcourt for a playoff push.
“The Warriors have sought a true starting center for some time, including veterans like Jonas Valančiūnas and Nikola Vučević,” Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus wrote Wednesday. “Here, they get the latter, who’s under contract for $20 million this year and $21.5 million in 2025-26.”
Meanwhile, the Bulls are weighing their options carefully. While Vučević and Zach LaVine have drawn significant interest, the team is hesitant to accept low-ball offers. “The front office has not been eager to accept low-ball offers just for the sake of offloading their veterans to begin a rebuild,” a source close to the team said.
LaVine, a two-time All-Star, remains a key trade asset despite his hefty contract. The Denver Nuggets are reportedly among the teams interested in acquiring him to pair with reigning MVP Nikola Jokić. However, LaVine’s $215 million deal over five years complicates potential trades, as teams would need to match his salary in any deal.
In addition to Vučević and LaVine, the Bulls are also considering younger talent to accelerate their rebuilding process. Zion Williamson, the New Orleans Pelicans’ former No. 1 pick, has been mentioned as a potential target. Despite his injury history, Williamson’s high ceiling and young age make him an intriguing option for Chicago.
As the trade deadline looms, the Bulls face a critical decision: whether to cash in on their veterans for future assets or hold onto their core in hopes of a late-season surge. For the Warriors, acquiring Vučević could be the key to solidifying their playoff aspirations in a competitive Western Conference.
