Washington Commanders Sign Veteran Defensive Tackle Carl Davis

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Commanders have officially signed veteran defensive tackle Carl Davis on May 27, 2025. The team announced the move on Tuesday, though they did not disclose the terms of the contract.
Davis, a former third-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2015, has had a robust career across multiple teams. He has played in 78 career games, starting 19 of those, and has recorded a total of 71 tackles, 3 quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks. His past teams include the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, and now, the Commanders.
In the 2024 season, Davis contributed by playing in three games for Washington, where he notched three tackles. He ended the season with the Cowboys after spending the previous year as a practice squad member with the Seattle Seahawks. His background also includes a significant 2021-2022 stint with the New England Patriots, where he played in 33 games and collected 30 tackles and 2 sacks.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn praised Davis’s experience, stating, “He’s really showing that veteran consistency inside. He can play square. He’s got size. Getting him into the mix and going, it was right to put that competition up for it.” This signing comes as the Commanders look to bolster their defensive lineup after being ranked 13th in total defense last season.
While Davis may not be a star player, his presence adds valuable depth and leadership to the squad. The team anticipates that he will compete for a spot on the roster and may play a critical role in the defensive lineup, especially with injuries impacting key players like Jonathan Allen.
As the Commanders gear up for the upcoming season, they are keen to integrate Davis into their evolving team dynamics, hoping his addition will contribute positively to their defensive strategy.
