Wet Weather on Mother’s Day Promises Rain and Cool Temps

COLUMBIA, S.C. — This Mother's Day weekend is expected to bring wet and cool weather across the region. Monday has been declared a First Alert Weather Day due to anticipated heavy rain and potential flooding.
Tonight, the skies will remain mostly cloudy with temperatures dropping to the upper 50s. A cold front moving through the area will keep temperatures low this weekend, with highs reaching around 69 degrees on Saturday. Residents should prepare for a 60% chance of rain that day, with expected on-and-off showers in the morning followed by steadier rain in the afternoon and evening.
On Mother’s Day, there will be a greater likelihood of morning showers. A low-pressure system lingering in the South will continue to funnel Gulf moisture into the area, which results in another 60% chance of rain throughout the day.
The rain will likely increase overnight into Monday, with a 90% chance of downpours and flooding concerns. Rain is expected to persist throughout the day on Monday, with forecasts suggesting total accumulations of 1-3 inches or more, raising the risk for flooding.
By Tuesday, there may still be lingering showers and storms in the morning as daytime temperatures rise into the low 80s. Wednesday looks to offer some relief from the rain, with partly cloudy skies and highs expected in the low 80s, moving towards temperatures nearing 90 by the end of the week.
The upcoming First Alert Forecast for this weekend is as follows: Tonight, expect a few showers with overnight lows around 59 degrees. Saturday will be cloudy and cool with rain chances at 60%. On Mother’s Day, temperatures will hover in the lower 70s with a sustained chance of rain, followed by waves of heavy rainfall predicted for Monday.
