Yankees to Host Softball Game for Old-Timers’ Day in August

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This year’s Old-Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium will include a softball game featuring retired Yankees players. The event will take place this August, as confirmed by The Post, marking a return of game play after being replaced by Q&A sessions in recent years.
The announcement follows reports from NJ Advance Media detailing the plan for a softball exhibition. The Yankees last held a game for Old-Timers’ Day in 2019. Subsequent events were canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, injuries among players prevented the game from taking place.
For the past two years, the organization opted for Q&A sessions instead. These sessions honored significant anniversaries for the team, including the 25th anniversary of the 1998 World Series champions in 2023 and the 15th anniversary of the 2009 championship in 2024.
As of now, the Yankees have not disclosed which players will participate in the game or attend the Old-Timers’ Day event. Typically, player announcements occur as the date approaches.
Questions remain about whether former Yankees captain Derek Jeter will take part in the softball game. He expressed reluctance to participate in an Old-Timers’ Day game, stating last August, “They’re not gonna see me hit again. No, I would be afraid I would hurt myself. But that’s not saying the reason there’s no game is because I’m not playing.”
