Youngstown State Faces Green Bay in Crucial Horizon League Clash
GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Youngstown State Penguins (11-8, 6-3 Horizon League) will take on the struggling Green Bay Phoenix (2-17, 0-8 Horizon League) in a Horizon League basketball matchup at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Resch Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Youngstown State enters the game as 7.5-point favorites, despite coming off back-to-back losses, including a 79-64 defeat to Milwaukee last Friday. The Penguins struggled offensively, recording only six assists, their lowest since November 2024. Meanwhile, Green Bay’s woes continued with a 14th consecutive loss, falling 89-67 to Robert Morris.
The Penguins have dominated the glass this season, averaging 36.4 rebounds per game, compared to Green Bay’s 28.7. This rebounding advantage could prove critical in Sunday’s matchup. Youngstown State also holds a historical edge, having won seven of their last 10 games against Green Bay, including a 71-59 victory in February 2024.
Green Bay, ranked 314th in points scored (68.8 per game) and 349th in points allowed (80.8 per game), faces an uphill battle. The Phoenix will need to improve their defensive efforts and find a way to close the rebounding gap to compete with the Penguins.
The over/under for the game is set at 145.5 points, reflecting expectations of a competitive but low-scoring affair. Fans can stream the game on Fubo, a live sports streaming service offering access to college basketball and other events.
Youngstown State’s head coach emphasized the importance of teamwork ahead of the game. “We need to get back to playing as a unit,” he said. “Our recent performances haven’t reflected our potential.” Green Bay’s coach, meanwhile, remains hopeful. “We’re focused on improving every game,” he said. “This is a chance to turn things around.”
