Mariners Face Tough Test Against Twins Following Rough May Performance

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Seattle Mariners are set to host the Minnesota Twins for a three-game series beginning Friday, May 30, 2025. After an impressive April, the Mariners have struggled, going 4-6 in May and risking a record under .500 this month.
Following a successful Vedder Cup sweep, the Mariners’ offense has dropped significantly, with a wRC+ of 100 in May, down from 125 in April. Meanwhile, their starting pitchers have also regressed, moving from an FIP- of 88 to 104 this month. Analyst believe the team’s true talent lies somewhere between these two months’ performances.
This weekend’s series features matchups between starting pitchers Zebby Matthews for the Twins and Bryan Woo for the Mariners on Friday night. The Mariners are favored at 57% to win this game, while game two on Saturday sees Bailey Ober for Minnesota against Bryce Miller of Seattle, where the Mariners hold a slight edge at 54%.
The Twins have experienced an opposite trend, starting the season poorly at 13-18 through April but going on a 13-game win streak in May. Despite leveling off recently with a 4-5 record, their strong pitching staff remains among the best in the American League this month.
Injuries have played a role in both teams’ lineups. Twins stars Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton were sidelined following a collision but both are expected to return soon. For the Mariners, Ty France is also expected to make an impact after returning from injury.
As the Mariners prepare for the series, they hope to shake off the impact of their recent tough road trip and capitalize on their home advantage in T-Mobile Park. This series could be pivotal as they move forward in the competitive AL West division.
