Al Ahli Afc Champions League Final Jeddah 2025

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Al Ahli will face off against Kawasaki Frontale in the Asian Champions League final at King Abdullah Sports City this Saturday, aiming for their first Asian title. This decisive match marks the first time since 2018 that a new champion will be crowned, as Al Ahli looks to write a new chapter in its storied history.

Al Ahli, while a founding member of the Saudi Professional League (SPL), had not been in the spotlight leading up to the tournament. Under the guidance of coach Matthias Jaissle, they recently defeated Al Hilal 3-1 in the semifinals, showcasing their capability and determination. More than 50,000 fans attended that pivotal match, demonstrating the local support for the team.

The club has previously faced challenges, including a relegation in 2022, but made a swift return to top-tier football, now presenting a strong force in Asian competitions. With nine national titles but only one in the 21st century, Al Ahli is keen to change its narrative. Their journey in this tournament has seen them remain undefeated.

In contrast, Kawasaki Frontale arrives in Jeddah after struggling in their domestic league, having not won in their last five J1 League matches. Coach Shigetoshi Hasebe is aware that fan support for Al Ahli could be a decisive factor in the final. Al Ahli’s star-studded squad, valued at approximately €169.93 million, significantly outmatches Kawasaki’s estimated €15.28 million budget.

Jaissle has tempered expectations, recognizing the pressure on Al Ahli to deliver a title in front of their home crowd. As part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which has invested heavily in football, success in this final could signify a pivotal moment for both club and country.

With a majority of supporters expected to create a vibrant atmosphere, Al Ahli will rely on the backing of their fans to secure their first-ever Asian title. However, as previous outcomes have shown, results on the pitch can surprise even the most prepared teams.
