Aldi Issues Health Warning Over Undeclared Milk in Baby Potatoes

LONDON, UK — Aldi has issued a recall for its Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter after discovering that the product contains undeclared milk, posing a serious health risk to consumers with allergies or intolerances. Customers are advised to return the affected product, which has a best before date of April 12, for a full refund.

Aldi stated, “Our supplier is recalling Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter because it contains the allergen milk which is not listed on the packaging.” The supermarket chain emphasizes the importance of consumer safety and urges customers to immediately check their purchases.

This recall follows another incident where the company had to act quickly due to a separate product recall involving Ruffles Sabor a Jamon Crisps, which also contained undeclared milk and soya. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) continues to underscore the risks associated with undisclosed allergens.

Anaphylaxis UK has issued a similar warning, advising anyone who purchased the product to refrain from consuming it. “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk, do not eat it and return it to your nearest ALDI store for a full refund,” the organization stated.

According to statistics, approximately 2-3% of children are allergic to cow’s milk, with most outgrowing it by age five. However, a small percentage of adults may continue to suffer severe reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. Additionally, it’s estimated that one in ten older children and adults experience lactose intolerance, which can lead to uncomfortable digestive symptoms.

The recall affects 385g packs of the potatoes, marked with a use-by date of April 12, 2025. Aldi encourages customers to return any unopened items to their nearest store and reassures them that refunds will be processed without issue.

The supermarket has acknowledged the inconvenience this may cause and stated, “We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”
