Anders Carlson Elevated to Handle Kicking Duties for New York Jets
The New York Jets have made several roster moves ahead of their Week 11 game against the Indianapolis Colts, including the elevation of kicker Anders Carlson from the practice squad. Carlson, a 26-year-old kicker who was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, will become the Jets’ fourth starting kicker in as many weeks[2][3].
Carlson’s recent experience includes a stint with the San Francisco 49ers, where he filled in for the injured Jake Moody. During his two games with the 49ers, Carlson converted all five of his field goal attempts and made three of four extra-point tries. This performance was a significant improvement over his erratic first year with the Packers[2][3].
The Jets’ decision to elevate Carlson comes after the team waived kicker Riley Patterson, who handled kicking duties for one game, and following the signing of Spencer Shrader by the Kansas City Chiefs. Carlson is expected to serve as the Jets’ kicker at least for the immediate future, or until Greg Zuerlein, who is currently on injured reserve with a knee injury, potentially returns[2].
In addition to Carlson’s elevation, the Jets activated safety Chuck Clark from injured reserve. Clark, who has been out for the past month due to an ankle injury, is set to return to the lineup and will be crucial in maintaining the Jets’ strong defensive performance against the pass[2].
To make room for Clark’s activation, the Jets waived offensive lineman Alec Lindstrom, who has been on and off the Jets’ roster this season. Lindstrom is expected to be a candidate for a practice squad deal if he clears waivers[2].
