Australian Shepherd Viking Wins Best In Show At Crufts

An Australian shepherd named Viking has emerged victorious at Crufts, the renowned dog show held at the NEC in Birmingham. Co-owned by Melanie Raymond, John Shaw, and Kerry Kirtley, three-year-old Viking, hailing from Solihull, Birmingham, triumphed after an impressive performance over the four days of the competition.

Melanie Raymond, a third-generation dog breeder living near the showground, expressed her elation at Viking’s win, calling it a dream come true. Viking, known for his playful antics and agility, is described as a true performer who always gives his best in the ring.

Among the notable finalists was Zen, a nine-year-old Jack Russell terrier from Japan, who claimed the reserve position in the competition after winning the terrier group earlier. The event saw some drama as Peta activists were escorted out of the arena for protesting against breeders.

The Kennel Club spokesperson emphasized the importance of Crufts in educating visitors on responsible dog ownership and how to choose the right pet for their lifestyle. With various challenges and presentations, the annual competition showcased the talents and skills of thousands of dogs from different breeds.

From agility tasks to obedience challenges, the event featured a range of exciting activities for participants and attendees. Viking’s win marks a significant moment in Crufts history, solidifying his place as the top dog in the competition.
