Browns Narrow Search for New Offensive Coordinator as Kubiak Emerges as Frontrunner
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns are methodically navigating their search for a new offensive coordinator, with Klint Kubiak emerging as a leading candidate. Kubiak, who recently interviewed with the Browns on Monday, is also scheduled to meet with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
The Browns are casting a wide net in their search, aiming to evaluate multiple candidates. With the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs concluded, additional coaches from eliminated teams are now available for interviews. Among the potential candidates are Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich.
McCown, known for his work with quarterback Sam Darnold this season, could be a strong fit for the Browns. While the offensive coordinator role would be a promotion for McCown, the team could hire him without assigning play-calling duties. Stenavich, on the other hand, already holds the title of offensive coordinator with the Packers, though head coach Matt LaFleur handles play-calling. To lure Stenavich away, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski would likely need to offer him play-calling responsibilities.
Stenavich has been a key figure in the Packers’ offensive success in recent years and has also been requested for an interview by the Chicago Bears for their head coaching vacancy. Both McCown and Stenavich are expected to be in high demand as coaching vacancies across the league continue to unfold.
Kubiak, who spent the 2024 season as the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints, brings a wealth of experience. He previously served as the Vikings’ offensive coordinator in 2021 and has held roles with the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers. His father, Gary Kubiak, is a former NFL head coach, adding to his football pedigree.
As the Browns weigh their options, the decision could hinge on whether they prioritize experience or potential. The team’s next move will be closely watched as they aim to bolster their offense for the 2025 season.
